When you are signed up to Floodline and flooding is forecast in your area, we will send you a message by phone or text, advising that a Flood Warning or Flood Alert has been issued and where to go to find out more about the flooding situation. New Volunteers Needed

Peebles CAB is hoping to offer a Saturday morning session shortly and we are looking for new volunteers who would be willing to give us two hours on one or two Saturdays a month, after training.

Why volunteer in a Citizens Advice Bureau?

There are lots of reasons why you might want to volunteer in your local bureau:

  • It’s a really stimulating place to volunteer, with lots of different things to do
  • You can help in a way that suits the time you can spare and the skills you can offer
  • You can learn new skills and improve your confidence
  • Our comprehensive bureau training and supervision programmes mean you’ll get lots of support along the way
  • Lots of people who’ve been Citizens Advice Bureau volunteers move on to paid work or further education
  • You’ll get a buzz from helping yourself and those around you
  • You’ll meet new and interesting people
  • If you’re looking for a job, volunteering in a bureau won’t affect your benefits

Training is both online, which can be done at home, and with support at the bureau. You will need to have basic computer skills and access to a pc or laptop at home.  You don’t need to have prior knowledge of the benefits system, or the law, to be a volunteer as our information system has almost everything you will need to be able to answer the questions people have. Advisers are never left unsupported by a paid member of staff, even after training.

Part of the service we hope to offer is assisting people without internet/computer access to complete forms online, so you will need to be confident in using a computer.

If you would like to join our friendly office, gain new skills and work experience and help support your community, please contact the manager, Melanie Nairn, on 01721 729648 or manager@peeblescab.casonline.org.uk
